About the Beckley Foundation Scientific Library

Background
The Beckley Foundation online library comprises an extensive scientific bibliography, with research papers on the many subjects in which the Foundation is involved.

It provides many thousands of citations, many with full text versions of these papers. The psychedelic library covers papers from the very earliest period of research right up to the most recent studies. This database was developed by the Beckley Foundation with the collaboration of scientists and organizations, such as The Heffter Institute , the Albert Hofmann Foundation , Erowid , MAPS and the ProMind Foundation, etc. The library is continuously updated and we are always interested in new papers which are relevant to the Beckley Foundation's broader interests.

Features
The library can be searched in two different ways. Simple Interface provides quick searches of the entire database using simple search criteria. Expert Interface enables complex combinatorial searches of specified bibliographies and supports features like named saved search result sets. Expert searches allow the user to focus on very specific search goals. In addition, the online library provides a What's New feature allowing researchers to quickly identify the latest papers added to the Beckley Foundation database.

Available Bibliographies
The following bibliographies are included within the BF online library.

  • All Beckley Foundation publications including research articles, drug-policy reports and briefing papers, and the proceedings documents of Beckley Foundation seminars.

  • MAPS' MDMA Literature Review with PDF copies of most papers, updated monthly.

  • Albert Hofmann Foundation's comprehensive bibliography on LSD and Psilocybin, 1943-1983 (over 4200 entries), originally gathered by Dr. Albert Hofmann for his personal use. The Albert Hofmann Foundation has granted permission to have these documents scanned into PDF format and made available on the Internet.

  • Torsten Passie's Psychedelic / Psycholytic Therapy Bibliography, a complete list of all studies of the therapeutic use of psychedelics from 1931-1995, preface by Dr. Leuner and introduction by Dr. Passie.
  • Alexander Shulgin's annotated and categorized MDMA bibliography (up to 1992).
Psychedelics and the Dying, and Euphoria (4-methyl aminorex) bibliographies by David Goldstein.
  • Medical Marijuana bibliography by David Pate.
  • Papers by Alexander T. Shulgin, Ph.D., David E. Nichols, Ph.D., Dr. Richard Strassman.
Note: Alexander Shulgin's annotated and categorized MDMA bibliography (up to 1992) is searchable only through the expert interface. This avoids possible confusion in the simple interface from two entries for some of the same references, with those in MAPS' MDMA literature review presenting the original abstract and PDF and those in Alexander Shulgin's bibliography presenting his summary in place of the original abstract. All other references can be accessed through either the simple or the expert interface.
