The Beckley Foundation was particularly proud to receive in spring 2007 the final approvals for the first study in over 30 years with human participants involving lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD). Since the last phase of LSD research in the 1950s and 1960s, both our understanding of neuroscience and our ability to observe the workings of the brain with modern neuroimaging techniques has expanded exponentially. Therefore, the scientific use of LSD affords a great opportunity to expand our knowledge of the functioning of the brain by using LSD as a tool to alter consciousness. The Beckley Foundation is also investigating potential clinical applications of LSD as treatments for psychological as well as physical disorders.

It makes me very happy to see that someone is finally looking into the medical uses of LSD. I believe that the drug has numerous uses in the field of psychotherapy and as a form of pain relief. The fact that doctors have been denied this tool because of societal problems supposedly caused by the use of this drug in the 1960′s is appalling. You brave scientists over at the Beckley Foundation have my full support.
